THE PLOT THICKENS! (Feb. 2005)
Well, well, well, If it isn't my favorite jar head himself... John Negroponte! Take a good long look at this man brothers and sisters because this is the man, yes JUST the man to execute the loss of freedoms you hear everyone talking about that loom large ahead in the Patriot Act. Yes indeed. This is a man who can really sink his teeth into something like the Patriot act. Its not even ironic that the picture above is so dark. You are looking at what is probably the darkest man in the American government.
As a follow-up to the points made in the "Right From The Horse's Mouth" article, I have another item that really needs to be looked at in light of the Christian world's denial of what we say about the typical evil nature of the Kingdom of America. Surely that is the appointment of John Negroponte to the position of Director of National Intelligence. As stated in the PNAC article, the Christian community refuses to look at the current administration for what it is, and continues to deny and make excuses for the truth, when the truth bears out so clearly and consistently. Here are my thoughts on the subject...
WHO IS JOHN NEGROPONTE?
The history that this man represents is amazing. It represents some of the greatest atrocities that have ever been committed by this government, yet somehow he remains a ghost when justice and inquiry come knocking. Either he is basking in the most astounding naiveté, is the most blind and blundering fool that has ever run a government operation, or he is the most skillful, seasoned practitioner of deception and the art of plausible deniability that ever lived. Not to mention the most effective procurer of psychopathic mad men to carryout his bidding, behind whom he can disappear into the shadows of improvable conjecture and speculation.
Leaving behind in the wake of his departure mass graves, generations of dead dissenters, good will ambassadors, volunteer workers who object to the atrocities, "terrorists"- (some men's "freedom fighters"), and even Christian missionaries. Well, at least he doesn't claim to be a godly man.... does he? Its amazing that HIS name doesn't appear on the Project for a New American Century's page as one of the constructors!
For those of you who are... approaching middle age, (and I emphasize the word approaching), will probably remember the days of the Regan Administration's activities in Central America, the Iran/Contra affair, the testimonies of death squad activity in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, The Sandinista Government, which was actually elected to office in an internationally recognized fair election. etc. etc. The disappearances of hundreds of people even some Christian missionaries. Stories of people tied and dropped alive from helicopters, burned beyond recognition, skinned alive, or simply just never heard from again.
Today, it is a historical blur of hints and allegations, a hornet's nest of conjecture and speculation; a real live American red herring. So obsessed was the Regan administration with completing the tasks begun in Central America, that it ignored congress, sold weapons to Iran on the Q.T. and used the funds to continue support to its own brain child, The Contras. Here is an excerpt from an Article posted on Wickipedia, an online reader supported encyclopedia that documents historical point of fact...
From 1981 to 1985 Negroponte was the U.S. ambassador to Honduras. During his tenure, he oversaw the growth of military aid to Honduras from $4 million to $77.4 million a year. At the time, Honduras was ruled by an elected but heavily militarily-influenced government. According to The New York Times, Negroponte was allegedly involved in "carrying out the covert strategy of the Reagan administration to crush the Sandinistas government in Nicaragua." Critics say that during his ambassadorship, human rights violations in Honduras became systematic.
Negroponte supervised the construction of the El Aguacate air base where Nicaraguan Contras were trained by the U.S., and which some critics say was used as a secret detention and torture center during the 1980s. In August 2001, excavations at the base discovered 185 corpses, including two Americans, who are thought to have been killed and buried at the site.
Records also show that a special intelligence unit (commonly referred to as a "death squad") of the Honduran armed forces, Battalion 3-16, trained by the CIA and the Argentine military, kidnapped, tortured and killed hundreds of people, including U.S. missionaries. Critics charge that Negroponte knew about these human rights violations and yet continued to collaborate with the Honduran military while lying to Congress.
In May 1982, a nun, Sister Laetitia Bordes, who had worked for ten years in El Salvador, went on a fact-finding delegation to Honduras to investigate the whereabouts of thirty Salvadoran nuns and women of faith who fled to Honduras in 1981 after Archbishop Óscar Romero's assassination. Negroponte claimed the embassy knew nothing. However, in a 1996 interview with the Baltimore Sun, Negroponte's predecessor, Jack Binns, said that a group of Salvadorans, among whom were the women Bordes had been looking for, were captured on April 22, 1981, and savagely tortured by the DNI, the Honduran Secret Police, and then later thrown out of helicopters alive.
In early 1984, two American mercenaries, Thomas Posey and Dana Parker, contacted Negroponte, stating they wanted to supply arms to the Contras after the U.S. Congress had banned further military aid. Documents show that Negroponte brought the two together with a contact in the Honduran armed forces. The operation was exposed nine months later, at which point the Reagan administration denied any U.S. involvement, despite Negroponte's introductions of some of the individuals. Other documents detailed a plan of Negroponte and then-Vice President George H. W. Bush to funnel Contra aid money through the Honduran government.
During his tenure as U.S. ambassador to Honduras, Binns, who was appointed by President Jimmy Carter, made numerous complaints about human rights abuses by the Honduran military and claimed he fully briefed Negroponte on the situation before leaving the post. When the Reagan administration came to power, Binns was replaced by Negroponte, who has consistently denied having knowledge of any wrongdoing. Later, the Honduras Commission on Human Rights accused Negroponte himself of human rights violations.
Speaking of Negroponte and other senior U.S. officials, an ex-Honduran congressman, Efrain Diaz, told the Baltimore Sun, which in 1995 published an extensive investigation of U.S. activities in Honduras:
The Sun's investigation found that the CIA and U.S. embassy knew of numerous abuses but continued to support Battalion 3-16 and ensured that the embassy's annual human rights report did not contain the full story.
The question of what John Negroponte knew about human rights abuses in Honduras will probably never be answered definitively, but there is a large body of circumstantial evidence supporting the view that Negroponte was aware that serious violations of human rights were carried out by the Honduran government, with the support of the CIA, if perhaps not with its direct approval. Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, on September 14, 2001, as reported in the Congressional Record, aired his suspicions on the occasion of Negroponte's nomination to the position of UN ambassador:
The following link gives the full conversation during Negroponte's confirmation hearings for Permanent ambassador to the U.N.
This is a VERY important read, to understanding the nature of this Article!
Among other evidence, Dodd cited a cable sent by Negroponte in 1985 that made it clear that Negroponte was aware of the threat of "future human rights abuses" by "secret operating cells" left over by General Alvarez after his deposition in 1984.
You will notice in the article above, the evasive nature of Negroponte's past. They can not and don't actually say that he did this or did that, even in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary because he was never actually charged, or found guilty of any crimes. Even the Foreign Affairs committee that questioned him took no action. As you see in the confirmation hearing piece, even after a lengthy dissertation about the obvious nature of his transgressions in Honduras, Dodd fully intended to confirm him! in other words, powerless dogs, bearing their teeth, but unable to get a bite! Its just amazing.
THE AMERICAN STATUS QUO
Then there was the infamous Battalion 3-16, (gee wonder where that name came from), which was admittedly American trained and funded, which was for all intents and purposes, the premier Death Squad in Central America at the time. The government side of the story was that the Sandinistas were communist lackeys, and that their removal from power was the life or death mission of the day. 3-16 being an obvious reference to one of the foundational scriptures of the Christian faith, it conjures up the obvious notion that the members of this Battalion were probably persuaded and pep talked into believing that they were on a mission for God to "Save the world", or that what they were doing in Central America was, as is the War in Iraq, a divine mission for God, that must succeed at all costs. (pffft!).
The Sandinistas also did in fact commit brutalities, as well as the Contras, but as is usual in American involvement, the fighters on OUR side were waging a heroic, "freedom fighting mission" and only "did what they had to". A typical American undertaking. After all, the main identities in the Sandinista regime were the same people who stole most of the international aide that poured into the country after the massive earthquake in 1972 that killed 20,000, and left a quarter of a million homeless. Even to this day, there are parts of Managua that were never rebuilt as the money was intended to be used for, so of course their ouster was a righteous mandate.
Opposition to this belief as I remember it was labeled as communist sympathy, and out right un-American. Of course. Often when we point out the evil motives or the wrong thinking of these "divine missions", people accuse us of siding with the "other guy". For instance when you disagree with George Bush, you must be a Kerry supporter, if you disagreed with the Reagan Administration back then, you must have been a communist sympathizer. In the section above where we say that the contras were American trained, yet were committing atrocities, we must be supporters of the Sandinistas... Wrong!
The Sandinistas were brutal and evil as well! The truth is when there is nothing but evil on the horizon, Christians are called to separate themselves from ALL OF IT. Why can't the Christian world see this at this time?? George Bush said it best... "If you are not with us, you are with the terrorists!" I still can't believe that he got away with that statement, and no one really said a word. Not even the media really gave him a hard time about that.
But when the scales tipped in favor of the "enemy" along came Negroponte, Battalion 3-16, and 77 mil a year in American funds. Even after the American people withdrew further support, proceeds from the illegal sale of arms to Iran went to fund the Contras. Ending in the heroic, patriotic, "for the love of his country" grilling of Oliver North before a congressional committee formed to investigate the affair. North standing tall and proud, pleased to be the fall guy for the glorious mission of freedom. Thousands of civilians dead, and many more tortured and "disappeared" while men like Negroponte, Abrams, Reich and Ronald Reagan gasped in disbelief (plausible deniability), at the atrocities they couldn't possibly have had anything to do with. Now these Men enjoy historical esteem, lucrative careers, glorious appointments, and continued public innocence. THIS is the American dream my friend, not home ownership. But still the only one to emerge from the hearings unscathed was John Negroponte.
GUILT EVEN WITH NON-ASSOCIATION.
There can be no question as to whether or not the American government supported the Contras, and since it is a well known fact that the Contras often targeted civilians, and eventually left thousands dead, it is an axiom that the Government, (at its usual arms distance, relaxing in the shade of deniability), supported Death squad activity. Looking the other way is the same as commissioning these acts, (especially when millions of your money is being poured into the Contras). But what of Negroponte? After all Hearings were over:
Where does the shamelessness of the American Government end? How is it possible that the supposedly "holy" administration of George W. Bush has brought up and posted the most villainous members of past Administration's darkest hours, coincidentally at a time when America is up to its elbows in insurgency in Iraq, and truly in need of a solution? In my opinion, it reaches its pinnacle in the appointment of John Negroponte, who after ambassador to the U.N., and to Iraq, will now "take up the cross" of "Director of National Intelligence".
Again, what of John Negroponte? Fully bathed in the scandals of the past, he remains untouchable. Never charged with any crimes, certainly never receiving even his ceremonial slap on the wrist. In fact one has had to really LOOK to even notice Negroponte before this appointment, he so effectively blends into the background, yet he has been in government, and in the middle of some of the most public and attention holding events in our history. From Vietnam to Iraq, this man has been there. And I promise you that soon, the Iraq insurgency will go away!
As the head of Homeland security, and in charge of depts. like the CIA, NSA, FBI, DEA, INS, and 8 other agencies of the intelligence infrastructure, there will be NO REIGNS on the activities of this man and his underlings, and I promise you, that after Iraq, these actions and policies will be coming home. What are the implications of a man like this controlling the entire intelligence apparatus of this country, if even ONE of the speculations about Honduras is true?
After all, the American people will be the last frontier to "conquer". The position that Negroponte is about to take up is by far the most powerful position in our government HANDS DOWN, and it will last well beyond the current Administration. You and I can not even fully imagine the things that are about to occur in the world. Mark those words! Here is a quote from the news conference where Negroponte was announced as nominee for Security Chief...
Sir, thank you. Regarding the Director of National Intelligence, in this town power is often measured in a couple of ways, by who controls the money and how close that person is to the President, sometimes physically. So let me ask you about that. You said that Mr. Negroponte will determine the budgets for all intelligence agencies. A lot of people feel the Pentagon is going to fight that, that the Pentagon wants to control its intelligence money. Would you address that? And also, where is Mr. Negroponte going to work? Will he be in the White House complex, close to you? Will he give you your intelligence briefings every day?
THE PRESIDENT: I think your assessment is right; people that can control the money, people who have got access to the President generally have a lot of influence. And that's why John Negroponte is going to have a lot of influence. He will set the budgets.
Listen, this is going to take a while to get a new culture in place, a different way of approaching the budget process. That's why I selected John. He's a diplomat. He understands the -- and he's an experienced person; he understands the power centers in Washington. He's been a consumer of intelligence in the past, and so he's got a good feel for how to move this process forward in a way that addresses the different interests.
Now, as to where his office is, I don't know. It's not going to be in the White House. Remember the early debate about, should this man be a -- or person -- be a member of the Cabinet. I said, no, I didn't think so. I thought it was very important for the DNI to be apart from the White House. Nevertheless, he will have access on a daily basis in that he'll be my primary briefer. In other words, when the intelligence briefings start in the morning, John will be there. And John and I will work to determine how much exposure the CIA will have in the Oval Office. I would hope more rather than less. The relationship between John and the CIA Director is going to be a vital relationship; the relationship between the CIA and the White House is a vital relationship.
John and I both know that change can be unsettling, and so, therefore, I'm sure there's some people out there wondering right now what this means for their jobs and the influence of a particular agency into the White House. And the answer is, everybody will be given fair access, and everybody's ideas will be given a chance to make it to John's office. And if he thinks it's appropriate I see it, I'll see it. And if he thinks it's a waste of my time, I won't see it. And obviously -- therefore, the conclusion is, I trust his judgment. And I'm looking forward to working with him. It's going to be an interesting opportunity.
Q Will you back him if he goes up against Don Rumsfeld, Rumsfeld wants a certain amount of money for his intelligence budget and Negroponte says, I don't think so?
THE PRESIDENT: I don't think it necessarily works -- I know that's how the press sometimes likes to play discussions inside the White House -- X versus Y, and butting of heads and sharp elbows. Generally, it works a little more civilly than that. People make their case, there's a discussion, but ultimately John will make the decisions on the budget.
"Backing" means it's kind of zero-sum; that's not the way our team works. It's not a zero-sum attitude in the White House, it is -- people have strong opinions, by the way, around here, which is, I would hope you'd want your President to have people around who have got strong opinions, people who are willing to stand up for what they believe, people who say, here's what I think is right and it may not be what so-and-so thinks is right; then the question is, do I have the capacity to pick the right answer, to be able to make a decision. I think people have seen that I'm capable of making decisions. And one reason why I feel comfortable making them is because I get good advice. And John is going to be a great advisor.
WHAT IS THE POINT?
Those who have heard me say many times that I don't care much about political matters, are probably wondering why I have written this Article, since there is nothing at all that can be accomplished by it. No charges will ever be applied, and Negroponte will definitely be confirmed for the post he has been nominated to? I mean God knows I certainly haven't presented any new information here. First I disagree with the notion that nothing can be accomplished by this Article. What we at 11th Hour set out to do right from the beginning, was to work diligently to sound the alarms of warning about the American Christian Church's support, and hailing of the current (or any other for that matter), Administration as Christian, and therefore directed by God.
George Bush made a calculated decision to secure the support of the Christian community long before he ran for the presidency. The appointments of every major dark figure in the Central American debacle (Abrams, Reich, Negroponte), is again another road sign, showing yet another proof that something is wrong, very wrong! I believe that American Christians are beginning to see the truth of what is happening, and I will continue to work hard to persuade the Christian that God directs to our site, of the error of such support.
BUFFOON OR WISE MAN?
The appointments of these men are a full manifestation, and confirmation of what my friends have believed all along, and I now have to admit is the truth; that George W. Bush is not an innocent buffoon being manipulated from behind the scenes by the likes of Dick Cheney or anyone else. Rather, that he is as fully as anyone in his Administration, "on task" with the current activities of White House in all respects, both dark and light. He has put together an historically "right" cabinet, which now is being beefed up with some of the most hideous, villainous characters in American history.
When I watched even Democrats hailing the appointment of Negroponte, I couldn't help but think that they all fear him every bit as much as I do, and as you should. When I hear on the radio in the morning that there are tapes which include conversations with Mr. Bush about his premeditated, calculated plan to secure the support of the evangelicals, and the religious folks in America, I am not one bit surprised.
People should not be surprised when the accusations start to arise that there are Death Squad activities being undertaken in Iraq in the coming months, or more probably, that the Iraq insurgency has "finally crumbled under the resolve of the American will". We will probably never even hear about the mass wipeouts that are about to take place. Even the taking of Fallujah, which was pretty brutal for being under the constraints of being public activity, will be pale in comparison to what is about to occur in Iraq. This time, and from here on out Negroponte will be operating from this country. True plausible deniability now belongs to him.
Ever heard the term "The Cleaner", or "The Fixer"? Whenever brutal and unfixable guerilla warfare has progressed beyond the manageable, whenever "insurgency" begins to make headway, where ever politicians are shaking in their boots for the embarrassing results of the hideous failure of their out of control, "gone bad", "divine missions" over the last 40 years, John Negroponte has been there, and after he is gone, so are the problems. Of course this could be just historical coincidence, or maybe even a circumstantial bearing of false witness against a true man of "God and Country"... maybe this man is "misunderstood" or "has gotten a bad rap" or maybe not?
As I attempted to point out in the "Project for a New American Century" article this government, which the Christian community is now hailing as a Godly, Christ centered entity, is everything BUT that. The last time that this country was publicly accused of atrocities, mistreatment of prisoners, cold brutality, torture, and all manner of Geneva convention ignorance, John Negroponte was the ambassador to that country. Did I mention that He has been the ambassador to Iraq since may 6th, 2004? Did I also mention that he will now become this Country's intelligence Chief, who will head up the entire intelligence apparatus of America? I think he was unable to accomplish what he needed to accomplish in Iraq as its ambassador, and in light of the outcome in Honduras, making him Intel chief will most certainly make it possible for him to accomplish what he needs to in Iraq, only this time with TOTAL deniability. As I said earlier, soon the insurgency in Iraq will go away!
If people would open their eyes long enough to see certain things, they would see the truth staring them in the face. He was the ambassador to Honduras during a time of brutality, atrocity, and death squad activity. He was the ambassador to the UN at the time America decided to invade Iraq against the will of the international community, (Amazingly his confirmation hearing was just 3 days after 9-11! Gee, I wonder if they realized the AMAZING TIMING of this appointment!) He has been the the ambassador to Iraq, during a time when there have been all manner of accusations about torture of prisoners, and illegal abuses, sound familiar?
Even the tactics that were mentioned of Central America were the same as the ones we read about at the prisons of Iraq, and Cuba. All things continue in The American Government as they have since the 1940s and nothing changed when George W Bush took office. Regardless of his confession to Christianity, which basically won him the office not once, but twice. The man profiled here (Negroponte) was nominated by that "Christian" President. The same man that American Christians put in the top 10 list of most influential (YIKES!) "Spiritual leaders of the Church" in 2004! In spite of the fact that he has not even once during his Presidency, during any speech, successfully quoted even ONE verse of scripture, and in spite of the fact that he went to leaders of the middle east and said "We serve the same God". A man who obviously has no concept what so ever of what Christianity teaches, is hailed as a man of God.
WAKE UP SLUMBERING CHURCH!
